Android MP3 Player

For all you Android fans there's a new Android MP3 that gives you a great MP3 player and much more. The biggest thing I see is that you get Google Maps, which comes in real handy, and some new Android games.

I knew it was just a matter of time before a good Android MP3 player hit the market. Samsung, who is very big in Android Phones, has brought out a first edition called the Galaxy Player 50. But the reviews slammed it pretty hard for the low resolution screen and chunky software. So although it does have an Android OS and does play music fairly well, all the other features rely on the screen and software to work well.

So the best choice right now is the Archos 43. This Android MP3 Player is probably the best overall choice right now. But it's much more than an MP3 Player with all the new Android OS and over 17,000 applications now available. Features like HD video playback, a very good built-in HD camcorder, surfing the Internet, and my favorite, Google Maps.

The 8 GB model sells for around $180 and the 16 GB sells for around $220. It can be tethered to any cell phone or WiFi for Internet access from anywhere. It's also constructed of stainless steel and injected plastic case that has rounded corners and is easy to hold.

There is a Micro-USB that is available for syncing and charging. Plus a mini-HDMI port that can connect to your TV or other playback devices and the 3.5mm headphone jack. Another feature I like is it has a kickstand to make for easy video watching.

Supported music formats cover just about any popular methods, Stereo MP3 CBR & VBR, WMA, WAV (PCM/ADPCM), AAC3, AAC+ stereo audio files, OGG Vorbis, and FLAC. Music on the microSD card are integrated with the music on internal memory which really helps when organizing songs. There are ample ways to setup play lists or favorites and lots of info on any song (including album art).

Android OS upgrades: One thing you need to do is let the Android download any updates for the operating system. Since Android is constantly being updated there are many advantages with each new version. I think the version right now on the out of box system is 2.1 so it will upgrade during install.
